As much as I love the sounds of Lex Lugar beats and 9th Wonder production, sometimes you have to slow the tempo down and just vibe out. D' Angelo's 2nd album
Voodoo is one of those albums you can just sit back and let the track list run through while your writing your procrastinated paper that's due on Monday, or if your just one of those people that likes to gut out a dutch and zone on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Either way it's a good mellow mood album to listen to. Most of the production is done by D'Angelo with guest production by Primo, Dilla, Questlove and Raphael Saadiq. Not to mention the album made Rolling Stones
500 greatest albums of all time. If you haven't already taken a listen to this classic, I highly recommend you do.
Notable tracks: "Devil's Pie", "Untitled
(How Does It Feel)"
Update:
Voodoo Outtakes and Extras. D'Angelo covers Roy Ayers' soul track "Everybody Loves the Sunshine", and also vibes out to Gang Starr's "Ex Girl to Next Girl". In addition, his hip-hop production, which was heavily influenced by fellow Soulquarian Jay Dee, is featured with the tracks "Pete Rock Beat" and "Marvine". The acoustic versions of "Spanish Joint" and "Africa" also appear on
Outtakes. Definitely worth a listen.
Bonus: D'Angelo also produced the smooth Slum Village classic "Tell Me"
(Co-production credited to Jay Dee) , from their classic album
Fantastic Vol. 2. It can also be found on the 10th Anniversary updated release,
2.10.
